Shockwave Therapy Did Not Help: What to Review Before Buying More Sessions

Not everyone improves with shockwave therapy. Before buying more sessions, review the diagnosis, the protocol, and your other options.
Short answer: if you haven't improved by your planned review point, pause and reassess before buying more sessions. Shockwave therapy doesn't help everyone, and more of the same isn't always the answer.
1. Is the Diagnosis Right?
Heel pain can be plantar fasciitis, a nerve problem, a stress fracture, or something else. Elbow and shoulder pain can be referred from the neck. Ask whether re-examination or imaging is warranted. The Mayo Clinic explains how other causes are ruled out.
2. Was the Device and Protocol a Good Match?
Ask which device was used and what research supports that protocol for your condition. See SoftWave vs Focused vs Radial.
3. What Else Is Loading the Tissue?
Workload, footwear, training changes, and a rehab program often matter as much as any device. Reviews of tendon care emphasize progressive loading — see PubMed.
4. What Are the Alternatives?
Targeted physical therapy, injections, orthotics, specialist referral, or surgical opinion may be appropriate. The AAOS outlines stepwise options.
5. Is Worsening Pain Part of the Picture?
If pain is worse, read Pain After Shockwave Therapy and contact your clinic for assessment.
This article is general education, not a diagnosis. Results vary, and improvement often reflects several factors — exercise, footwear, workload changes, time, and other care — not the device alone.
